About Us
Welcome to Treasures With Heart Jewelry Webpage. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting our site as well as introduce myself to you and tell you a little about who we are.
My name is Heather Day and I am the founder and owner of Treasures With Heart Jewelry along with my husband Dwayne.
Our company is located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, in beautiful Cape Breton, Canada.
After suffering a massive heart attack and stoke in November of 2012 that left my left hand and half of my face paralyzed, I felt it was time for a re-direction in life and to launch out into my passion and do the things I enjoy most in life.
I have always been attracted to jewelry of every kind. I was like a magnet drawn to it wherever I went, whether it was in a shop or a mall or my favorite places in the flea markets and craft shops and fairs.
I played around making some of my own earrings and necklaces over the years and people always commented on them. Many asked if I ever thought of selling them. I wrestled with the thought of it. Would I have time to do it while working full time? Would anyone want to buy my product? One day I came across a bracelet online that was made from an old spoon, yes, that’s right, a spoon. I was very intrigued by this and so began my journey of making CUTLERY Jewelry from repurposed spoons, forks, knives, even gram’s old serving platter that sits in the drawer and never sees the light of day because it’s so black and tarnished and no one wants to clean it anymore. Once I started to play with this thought of making jewelry from cutlery I was hooked! The floodgate of my imagination came flying open and there was no stopping it. I lay in bed at night dreaming up new ideas and styles and what could be. The possibilities are endless. I am continually inspired everyday and excited with what will be tomorrow!
I would dream of owning my own jewelry business but was always a little nervous of it, then one day while at work I heard this song on the radio by Nickleback called “What are you waiting for?” I was stopped dead in my tracks and listened to the song and what it was about. The line that caught me the most was “Everybody’s gonna make mistakes, but everybody’s got a choice to make, everybody needs a leap of faith, when are you taking yours? What are you waiting for?" Now, I am a woman of faith and not ashamed to say it. God speaks to each of us all the time but are we really listening. He spoke to me very strongly through this song and here we are today. Living the dream! So what’s your dream? What are you waiting for?
We have been operating as a business since 2015 now and have launched our online store. We have been setting up at our local Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings, introducing our line to the people in and around Sydney, Cape Breton, and they have been intrigued and amazed with what we carry and how we make it. The response has been fabulous. We also set up a huge display every year at the Big Fiddle Pavilion on Sydney's waterfront during our Cruise Ships season.
One thing that many people are interested in is our Heirloom Program that we offer. We love the idea of taking forgotten silverware and creating heirloom custom jewelry that will be treasured today and tomorrow. Just imagine the stories that these pieces could tell if they could talk!
What starts as an old family heirloom fork, spoon or knife, and serving platters, will end as beautiful jewelry for the family to hold close to their hearts and wear with pride. Beautiful bracelets or rings or pendants, and more, are made from old family heirloom flatware with history, taking family heirlooms with memories and turning them into wearable pieces of modern day jewelry that can be passed down for generations to come.
Here is an example of a custom heirloom customer and her response . . .
Wanda from Ontario . . . "I somehow inherited some of my Grandmother's good flatware and its been sitting in its box for 15 years, until I saw Treasures With Heart Jewelry. I sent Heather 2 simple forks and she made something beautiful for me to give my daughter on her wedding day. Now my daughter has something of her Great Grandmother to share in generations to come. What a awesome way to make some family heirlooms."
Thank you for the review Wanda, I am so glad that you liked it and I hope your daughter realizes the wonderful thought that you put into it and where they came from. I tell people ALL the time of your story and they are moved and touched by what you did. Very sentimental! You and your daughter are personal testimonies for our heirlooming program. People love the story! If you don't mind, I would like to post the pic's of the 'before and the after' so people can see the transformation for themselves. It was my honour to be able to bring a little of the past into the future. Thank you once again.
*Wanda has agreed to have her pieces shown and you can view them on our Blog pages under Custom Orders I Have Done.*
